As lovers of good wine and great seafood, we decided to create a tour around the two. Very few regions manage the relationship quite as well as Galicia, in the northwest part of Spain.
Its position, on the Atlantic coast (just above Portugal), provides the perfect environment for growing the vines that provide the Albariño grape. The cool humid air often brings tropical rains that penetrate the mineral rich soil, creating the perfect microclimate for this white grape varietal.
The Rías Baixas region, forms the southern most part of Galicia, and is the location for the Denomination of Origin (D.O.) of Albariño wines.
In the first video, Doug Frost explores the history of the Rías Baixas region while conveying the personality of these fresh white wines.

The white wines of the D.O. Rías Baixas are dry, floral, citrus, with a very fine and long aftertaste. Mono-varietal wines like “Albariño” are straw yellow in colour, bright with golden and green iridescence. They are fresh and smooth on the palate, with sufficient body and alcohol, a balanced acidity and broad harmonious nuances. Their aftertaste is pleasant, elegant and complete.
What is Rías Baixas Albariño?In the first video, Doug Frost explores the history of the Rías Baixas region while conveying the personality of these fresh white wines.
The second video Albariño: Exceptional with All or Nothing, demonstrates the versatility and food-friendliness of this cool white wine. Woven in to the compact exploration of this Spanish grape are interviews with Rías Baixas producers and local wine experts.
